Now well into its second decade, Woodstock & District University of the 3rd Age (U3A) offers a varied programme of lectures, visits, discussion groups and other activities aimed at those no longer in full time employment or bound by family responsibilities.
The Branch’s programme of monthly speaker meetings features guest speakers from many fields – the arts, history (local and national), science and so on, each introducing their subject to a non-specialist audience. The same monthly meetings – held in the Community Centre, New Road, Woodstock – also provide an opportunity for members to socialise over tea or coffee, and for their twenty-odd Interest Groups to talk about and illustrate their activities.
Those Interest Groups range widely, from art, music (including recorder players) and books to Scrabble, from Bridge and Battlefields to needlework and play-reading; most groups meet in central Woodstock, with the popular Walking and ‘Ambling’ groups venturing – not too far – into the surrounding countryside. Members also have access to many U3A national and regional events
Membership costs £20 per year; full details are on the website www.u3asites.org.uk/woodstock.
