A care home in Witney is helping to create a dementia-friendly community by hosting a series of free dementia awareness events over the coming months.
On Thursday 15th August from 2pm-4pm, the team at Care UK’s Millers Grange on Curbridge Road, will open the doors to the community for one of its popular ‘Dementia Awareness’ events.
Gina Dutton, head of the Association for Dementia Studies from Worcestershire University, will share insights on the condition along with practical strategies for caring for a loved one with dementia, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers.
After the free event, there will be a Q&A session and the opportunity to meet the friendly team at Millers Grange, as well as take a closer look at the care home.
The team at Millers Grange will then be hosting an ‘Understanding Dementia’ event on Thursday 12th September from 2pm-4pm. Led by dementia specialist Lauren Lovatt from Care UK, this session will help visitors discover the small things they can do to make a difference to people living with dementia. The event will offer expert advice and answer any questions on the specialised care offered at Millers Grange for people living with dementia.
Home manager at Millers Grange, Steve Reader, explains: “We know that it can be challenging to look after a friend or relative living with dementia. It’s natural to feel confused about the best way to help a loved one, so our events aim to offer professional knowledge to those who need it – as well as provide a hub for shared experiences.
“We want people to know they’re not alone, and we’re here to offer support. We look forward to welcoming them to the home for two inspiring afternoons of information and guidance.”
Millers Grange provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care. With 52 ensuite bedrooms, it has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. It also features space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café.
To reserve your free place on either of the events, email home manager, Steve Reader, on firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0333 321 8351.
