The Foscote Private Hospital in Banbury has undergone a breathtaking transformation following its’ sale to Harley Street maxillofacial surgeon, Professor Kaveh Shakib.
The hospital, which has been established in Banbury for over 40 years, was put up for sale in 2018 by the charitable trust that had been managing it, as it required major investment to upgrade the facilities and bring it into the 21st Century.
Professor Shakib, supported by a family office healthcare investment fund, stepped in to save the hospital and give it the attention and investment it so desperately needed. The building has undergone a major refurbishment, not just of the décor but of the services; bringing in MRI and CT imaging facilities, a brand-new room for laser treatments, as well as attracting new consultants from across the Oxfordshire, Midlands and London. The end result is a stunning example of holistic private healthcare, where the environment for patients is valued as highly as the world-class consultants and treatments on offer.
It’s clear to see the thought and care that has gone into the project from the moment that you walk through the door; the once dark and faded reception area has been transformed into a bright and airy foyer worthy of any 5-star hotel; dominated by a stunning chandelier and circular reception desk, and littered with trendy white seating for waiting guests to relax as they enjoy a barista-style coffee or chilled bottled water.
Bedrooms at the hospital have also been upgraded; exuding comfort, luxury and a sense of peace, with each air-conditioned room having quiet garden views as well as the usual television, telephone and WiFi. Inpatients are even treated to a range of delicious, freshly-made meals that are prepared to order by the hospital’s chefs, from their restaurant-standard kitchen on-site.
The experienced nursing team are friendly and helpful, and have clearly been empowered by the extra support available to them, meaning they are able to devote time and attention to every patient who comes through the door – and you can’t help but leave with a feeling that you have been looked after by old friends.
“We understand that when people make a choice to pay for their healthcare, they expect something far beyond what they would receive in a general hospital” says Professor Shakib; “Our principle is that by creating a space that promotes calm, comfort and relaxation, we are providing the best possible environment for our patients to receive treatment and recover”.
The new facilities are not just attracting patients however; consultants from across Oxford University Hospitals and the surrounding counties, all experts in their fields, have taken up clinics at the hospital, bringing with them a broad range of specialties from cardiology to cosmetic surgery. The acceptance criteria for the consultants practicing at the hospital is set to an exceptional standard. “Previously, people seeking this standard of care and comfort might have travelled into Oxford or London”, says Shakib. “We wanted to make that level of service more easily accessible and Banbury is the ideal location to make that a reality – being conveniently situated for people in Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, Warwickshire, the Cotswolds and even London”.
It’s clear that the team have big ambitions for the Foscote, with focus on patient satisfaction as their top priority. Even with the added benefits that the makeover has brought, their self-pay prices remain refreshingly honest; yet another indication that they are serious about making high standards even more accessible.
